History of ETEI Bhanjanagar

Initially this institution was a hill tribe sessional school in 1856. In the year 1861, a normal training school was also established. This normal school was converted into a Govt. Training School in the year 1890. It functions till the year 1904 when it was converted into a lower elementary grade training school. This was raised to the status of Higher Elementary grade training school equal to Elementary training school in the year 1937. This Elementary training school was again converted into Basic Training School with effect from 15th July 1948. This basic school was then converted into C.T. School (Secondary Training School) in 1969.
Since the school had been functioning with intake capacity of 50 Seats till 2014, after that NCTE sanctioned additional intake capacity of 50 Seats for pupil teacher. In the Year 2018 the name of the Govt. Secondary Training School, Bhanjanagar was renamed as Govt. Elementary Teacher Education Institution, Bhanjanagar. Previously the D.El.Ed. Course is known as Certified Teacher (CT) Training course. Now Office of the Principal, GETEI, Bhanjanagar is functioning in its own building under the Directorate of TE & SCERT Odisha, School and Mass Education Department, Govt. of Odisha.

  • To shift the classroom process and promote critical and creative thinking among the learners of elementary school level as well as elementary teacher education level.
  • To prepare reflective teacher for elementary level to meet the need of 21st century learners.
  • To enable the development of skills of teaching and engaging latest technological devices as aids to teaching-learning process.
  • To help faculty in capacity building for academic planning, ICT integration in classroom, assessment strategies, research studies and curriculum designing.
